Friends,

Welcome to Spring, a new season filled with creative vitality and exciting happenings!

Spring in Philadelphia is a time to celebrate a vibrant season of new and fresh art and cultural event programming that will delight audiences. With its deep music tradition, the city offers an incredible music scene filled with a wide array of diverse musical genres. As we celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month  April 1-30, some amazing performances are featured at several local music venues throughout the month of April.

  • The sixth annual Center City Jazz Festival, one of the highlights of Jazz Appreciation Month, will take place on Saturday, April 29. The festival features six hours of live performances at five downtown locations, all conveniently within walking distance of each other. One ticket gives attendees access to all 20 bands scheduled to play over the course of the day.

This year’s venues feature: Fergie’s Pub, Chris’ Jazz Café, Franky Bradley’s, Milkboy Philadelphia and Time. Tickets and performances schedule information available on Center City Jazz Festival‘s website.

  • The Philadelphia Jazz Festival , April 23-30, is a new Philadelphia Jazz festival created to help preserve and promote Philadelphia’s long and rich jazz legacy. The festival, scheduled during Jazz Appreciation Month, presents a comprehensive mix of local, national and international artists across a broad musical spectrum. Additionally, it offers an important Education & Outreach component with several events featured throughout the week. Ticket information is available on the website.
  •  Exit 0 Jazz Festival April 21-23. A MUSICIAN’S PRACTICE

Practicing, composing, engineering, producing – and performing – are part of Laurent’s commitment to his individual and collective music experience. The legendary cellist Pablo Casals was asked at age 90 why he continued to practice: “Because I am making progress” he replied. Practicing scales and intonation using “long tone” exercises, jazz phrase exercises in all keys, practical theory using jazz tunes to develop improvisation are part of Laurent’s daily music routine as a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist.
