Greeting and happy spring!   We’re looking forward to a season filled with new performances by our bands and to new exciting events. Spring is also the season to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month (April)!

Upcoming Events and Performance Highlights

LB Entertainment is honored to provide entertainment for many distinguished events and celebrations throughout the year. Here are just a few of the highlights:

 – Friday May 18, 2018 Mélange Jazz Collective performs for The Center for Art in Wood, “A Perfect Finish”, at Hotel Monaco Philadelphia. Featuring saxophonist Laurent Bass, bassist Bert Harris, pianist Alex Levin.

Mélange is delighted to be performing for The Center for Art in Wood’s special event  A Perfect Finish  celebrating The Center’s Co-founder and Executive Director, Albert LeCoff.  Located in the heart of Old City, the Center is a magnificent gallery and is widely recognized ‘as one of the most valuable resources for the education, preservation and promotion of the field of art made from wood’.

 – Friday, April 20, 2018 – Laurent Bass and MïxT BeatZ performs for Margaret S. Mahler Foundation dinner reception at the Union League.

Margaret S. Mahler Child Development Foundation will host their dinner reception for their symposium on Child Development on April 20 at The Union League. Laurent has been performing for this particular event for over 10 years and is honored to be invited again for this year’s reception.

Wednesday, May 9, 2018 – Mélange Jazz Collective performs for Pennsylvania Innocence Project‘s annual event hosted at WHYY Studios in Old City. Laurent’s music style expands beyond jazz performances as he has also established himself as an artist in electronic genre.  He, along with many other passionate musicians, producers and artists, recently attended a community event for the newly released and upgraded Ableton Live 10, a program dedicated to enhance live music performances and music creation, at SAE Institute New York.

Philadelphia-based, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, composer, educator and partner at LB Entertainment LLC, Laurent LB Bass is at the vanguard of solo live entertainment in electro-acoustic performances and is an active member of the Philadelphia Jazz collective.

With Jazz as his home base, LB has been pushing the boundaries of music for years. Well-known for his special solo electro-acoustic performances with LB Jazz +One and MïxT BeatZ and for his performances with Mélange Jazz Collective, LB is recognized for producing sophisticated and creative cross-over genres and upbeat soundscapes through original compositions/remix in electro genre and Jazz interpretation using Ableton Live and Max for Live cutting-edge music production technology. His performances integrate live performances on soprano and tenor saxophones (at times with the accompaniment of other live performers) with original electro samples and reflect his wide musical experience in Jazz, World, Afro-Cuban, Latin, Electronic.

Laurent is a recipient of Ableton Live Producer Certificate program by Ableton AG, a Berlin-based music software company. He studied extensively with composer, alto saxophonist and Jazz innovator, Bobby Zankel, with clarinetist and saxophonist Norman David, and with flutist Dr. Cynthia Folio. He recently attended Buster Williams School of Music and completed their Summer Jazz Intensive program.  He was awarded Akademia Award for best funk/jazz song for his original composition, Feelin Good (http://www.theakademia.com/march2015_bestsong_funkjazz.html)

Laurent received his Ed.M from Harvard Graduate School of Education and his B.A. from Temple University.

Recognized as one of the premier Jazz bands in the Philadelphia area, Mélange is known on the Jazz scene and event circles for crafting and performing fresh artistic interpretation of Jazz standards and for its creative original compositions.

The ensemble can perform as instrumental – or with a vocalist – as duets, trios, quartets or larger ensembles depending upon the event requirements.

Jazz Appreciation Month – Philly Celebrates Jazz

 Jazz Appreciation MonthApril is Jazz Appreciation Month in Philadelphia – and around the world – and April 30 has been designated as International Jazz Day by UNESCO to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.

Philadelphia has an extraordinary jazz heritage and is currently enjoying a thriving and vibrant jazz scene.  Enjoy cultural events, special live performances, panels, films, photography and art exhibitions at various venues throughout April.

LB Entertainment has several performances featured during the month of April. We hope that you can join us and our musicians at some of our happenings listed on our calendar at Paris Wine Bar, Sassafras Old City, Manayunk Brewery, Pinot Boutique or at Stockton Market.
